Barrowfield Pottery was so mighty it had steam powered throwing wheels

Barrowfield pottery was one of the largest stoneware manufacturers in Scotland, which at its height of production in 1895 boasted 18 bottle oven kilns. Established in 1866 the pottery transported clay from Devonshire to produce it’s utilitarian stoneware and throwers used steam powered wheels to make the pots, manufacturing all kinds of stoneware from one ounce pots to 30 gallon vessels.
